Local artist Wayne Thompson was inspired to commemorate Texas’ 175th birthday on canvass. A proud Texas native, he chose to portray the grandeur of our state Capitol in the background and the gallantry of one of Fort Bend County’s heroes in the foreground. Texans everywhere recognize the capitol in Austin. The imposing statue on the capitol grounds of Confederate Colonel Benjamin F. Terry, a resident of Fort Bend County and leader of the legendary Terry’s Texas Rangers, reminds us of the service that so many have given throughout Texas’ history.
