I wanted to send out an update on our current organizing efforts with the Greater Mission Bend Area Council. You can go to our web site at www.gmbac.com for more information. We are now well into the process of organizing a community-wide Crime Watch program. Our approach differs from what you may be familiar with in that many HOAs and small communities have some form of Neighborhood Watch. Our goal is to organize this program on a much broader scale and coordinate the work across the entire community, which includes two counties. We just felt that with a population of 60,000 residents spread across two counties and 30+ HOAs (and almost as many MUDs) that a piecemeal approach would give us limited results and would waste resources. A coordinated approach gives us the ability to maximize our limited resources, much of which includes our “army” of volunteers. We could well end up with 500 volunteers to give you an idea of the scope of this project.
At some point we will need to find someone to be our designated coordinator but at this time several of us are sharing this role. I estimate it will take about two years to get this thing running at full speed, but we are well underway. I will keep you posted.
A couple of you have asked if this would interfere with my work as a director for the Chelford One MUD. I can assure you that not only do the two roles not conflict but in fact there is a synergy in the roles which helps me to keep a valuable perspective of the activities in our community. In addition I was just promoted to position of President of the Chelford One MUD, which expands my role on the MUD board.
Andy Cerota from KTRK Channel 13 has covered our work from the beginning. Below is a link to his latest story. Earlier KPRC Channel 2 presented a story about our organizing meeting but I do not have a link to that. I say in all sincerity that we could not have paid for this kind of positive publicity. Check it out:
Sincerely,
Mike
